Tesla’s ‘We Robot’ event happened last night. I didn’t plan on watching ending up tuning in for a few minutes and got hooked. So, here are my takeaways.
1. Tesla continues to have the coolest product roadmap of any company in the world
Tesla's product roadmap is unparalleled. While I used to be a staunch Elon supporter around 2014, I’ve distanced myself over time due to his recent antics and controversies. Watching this event reminded me why he’s visionary—he paints a clear, exciting picture of the future and shows us how to get there.
It's not just about the products—Cybercabs, Robovans, Humanoid robots—but the slick ways they're being built.
The Cybercab will be self-cleaning. The design is extremely sexy. It looks super futuristic.
It’s mind boggling that this is a “car company”.
2. Humanoid robots will be the biggest product line in human history
Move over iPhone. While talking about Optimus, Elon mentions this will be the biggest product line in human history.
While it might seem far-fetched now, from my perspective Elon tends to be directionally correct with long-term predictions
So when he says humanoid robots will be the biggest product line ever I’m inclined to think that’s a real possibility.
This immediately made me think that maybe one of the best companies to be working for right now is Figure. They are an elite team that is pre-launch and building a competitor to Tesla’s Optimus.
My intuition tells me it will be Figure vs Tesla in the long term humanoid robot space. Imagine working at Apple to help create the iPhone.
3. We’re on the precipice of autonomous vehicles changing our city landscapes
The product vision laid out is as much about the future of the world as it is about the products. Elon discusses how parking lots are going to transformed, maybe into parks.
In a decade or two we will have WAY more greenspace in our cities. Waymo is already up and running in SF and other cities.
It seems inevitable, and the result will be far less traffic and far more greenspace. And how cool will that be?
Whether or not you can look past Elon’s antics, there’s no denying that Tesla’s vision for the future is transforming industries and changing how we think about technology’s role in everyday life.
