Current Goal: Break 90 at a second course
Current Handicap: 19
Alrighty, welcome to my second post here in the rough draft. Big day today, broke 90 at a lake to golf course, which is playing quite short right now because it's, it's a par 70 but I shot in 84.
So I'm gonna, I'm absolutely gonna be counting that. That's with, that's plenty of margin.
Let's see. I uh I actually broke, I actually shot in 89 last time I played there, but because it's a par 70 it kind of feels like that doesn't, that's a little bit too close for comfort.
I feel like I didn't play particularly well in most areas. I just, I played all right. I just kept things in play.
Um, played smart. Um I think the big thing is my ups and downs ups and downs. I chipped really well.
Um and I put it fine like, but probably because I chipped pretty well. I put things pretty close.
But if you look at, you know, this is comparing to a 18 handicap. So every everything everything here is, I'm playing above an 18 handicap, I'm playing better than 18 handicap.
And if you compare this to some recent rounds, I've had,
let's see, like I play, I played Edgewood over two weekends ago and I shot a one on one and you can see, I, I dropped 10 strokes just from putting.
That's how bore it was. Um, the greens are really fast. It's a much harder course for sure.
But I'm stoked to, you know, break break 90. That was kind of my goal for the, for the summer, the summer I thought.
And just compared to where I was even a few months ago, if we, if we dig back into some of these, you know, these are, this is in April, this is uh
you know, 23 months ago, I'm shooting, I'm shooting well over 100 at most of most of these places.
So and I, you know, I probably didn't even keep score at some of them like some of these like this is the ones that I kept score at so not great.
Um And to be, you know, shooting 84 legit 84. Um I'm, I'm stoked. Uh Yeah, so let's see, I have a, I have a video here that kind of represents how I feel right now.
It's,
oh no,
that's an 89. I grew 90. I'm the best golfer alive. I gotta get some,
the open starts at 4 a.m. There's scout my competition and everybody doesn't shoot under 90.
That,
that what's that about?
So that's me. That's gonna be me in the probably in the next round. Uh But no, I mean, I'm feeling really good.
I actually might buy, I had been saying I would buy a putter if I uh a new putter because I'm using like a $30 putter that like the cheapest putter that I bought when I just first started playing a few years ago.
But yeah, I am feeling really good. I can, I can go into some more details about um like particularly what helped my short game.
Um I think the main, so the main thing is this, I took a lesson at Old Greenwood a few weeks ago, maybe almost a month ago now or like beginning of June.
And at that lesson,
it was a short game lesson and we went over chipping and we went over pitching. Um chipping I the chipping I've historically done is like is basically more like pitching but just short pitching like I, you know, really lost the ball in the air.
That that's all I do or that's all I did. And then at, at that lesson which was with um I think his name is Jeremy Pinkowski.
He um he, he showed me how to chip, which is, you know, to really land the ball.
I had to really land the ball like uh with a short shot, land the ball on the green and let it roll out like a putt.
And that is what really I would say has helped me in my short game more recently. Um, that happened.
Yeah, I mean, that was, yes.
Uh, probably after this round
you, you could see even in Edgewood the other day it was pretty actually. No, I think it was after Edgewood.
So you can see my short game has been quite good since then, but today was, today was the best. Today was like, I was actually like, you know, if I was chipping, I was like, trying to make it, not just even get it close, I was like, really aiming to, to make it.
Um And that left me with a lot of short cuts and that's why, you know, I only had 33 putts here.
Um And I had 61 putts, only 33 putts, which is great for me. If you compare that to
Edgewood the other day, I had 46 putts at Edgewood. 10 3 putts, only 11 putt. So Edgewood is much, much harder.
Um Or at least the greens are much faster. So, you know, II I don't know, I'm not gonna shoot an 84 at Edgewood just because the shot went like to golf course.
Um But the differentiate the differential between putting was, is extreme. It's too extreme and a lot of that's because of the short game.
And I did the same thing at toy Abbi. You can see how bad I was put there too. So that was probably the key thing that, that, that has helped me most recently is the short game.
The other thing that at, at that lesson that we, that he taught me was pitching appropriately, which is like using the bounce, but I really haven't figured that out yet.
I'm still struggling with that part. Um I'm still for, for those like 25 to 50 yard shots. I'm still doing more of what I was doing previously, which is a kind of a, essentially it's like a full swing or it's a full swing motion, but I'm just cut it, you know, depending on the, the, the
distance. Like if I need to go 50 yards or 25 yards, I'll just do like a, a quarter swing with my lob wedge.
Whereas the pitch shots really supposed to be a full, you know, you get full wrist hing and then you just like let the club drop to let the, let the, to use the bounce.
I haven't figured that out yet, how to, how to do it consistently or how to do it in a way that is better than my existing pitch sho shots.
So that's still a work in progress.
My driving was today was ok. I didn't, my driving and, and like off the was like,
I don't iii I kept it in play. So like that, that probably saved me a bunch of strokes. But other than that, I honestly don't think it was particularly good.
Average distance was only 2 30. This is significantly less than
see what it was last.
Oh, man. Even last time it was bad. Yeah, after tea it's been pretty inconsistent. It was 2 50 at, uh, Toy Abi at a 3 50 yard drive.
There was like heavy wind at our backs and, and I rolled out always. So just that's why that happened.
But it's the same thing at Edgewood driving much better, actually, more or less, much further. And, uh,
yeah, so the other thing is I took a lesson at Incline Village this past weekend and actually the lesson didn't go well at all.
I got there at
t a lesson learned how to chip.
Um listen, didn't go well.
Um I got there and I was hitting him really well to like warm up and, and then the instructor was Ashley wood and she just started like pretty quickly at changing things with my swing.
She was like, ok, now flare out your foot, your foot now like bow your wrist. Now like we're gonna try and get your hip open like at one swing after another, I felt like and by halfway through the lesson, I couldn't hit the ball anymore.
I like it was just, it was like shanks and, and, and just like completely, I just lost the feel for how to hit the ball.
So it's unfortunate both like because it's kind of waste the lesson if that happens. She was just like trying to, once that started happening.
She was just like, ok, let's try and backtrack and like, she just then just like, started reverting everything that she did, but I still couldn't get the feel back.
Um, I did obviously get it back today. Like I was, you know, I was hitting him normally today, but I think, um, the only real, like, swing thought takeaway I had from,
I had was to was that I still need to keep my, my hips and my butt back more. Um, you can see my swing here, like I'm coming forward quite a bit
to keep my hips back and to rotate, you know, instead of, instead of like kind of coming towards the ball, I want, you really want to rotate around your spine.
And I'm, I'm still coming to too much towards the ball and that's, I'm just losing distance and, you know, not hitting the ball as much with my big, bigger muscles, my, my legs and, and my hips and whatnot.
So that's still work in progress. But anyway, I'm,
you know, I'm really excited about breaking 90. It's kind of, that was the main goal I had for the whole summer.
So
we're gonna add a little thing here.
And so now I think the next goal is try to do it somewhere else. Like, not just at lake to golf course, like to golf course again, is playing at a par 70 it's already a pretty short course and it's at elevation, like there's all these things.
It's an easy course. Um, I did, I mean, shooting 84 I feel like is, is good enough to like, ok, I could probably break 90.
I feel confident I could break 90 pretty much anywhere or at least, like, there's, if I play well, I, I will break, I could break 90 pretty much anywhere.
Um, but I got to do it. I haven't done that yet. I'd love to be like, in the eighties this summer.
That would be a great goal. So, not just like, and, and so I, I, that's my next goal is just break 90 out of a second course.
Um, if I was actually shooting in the eighties, man, I'd be really, really stoked about my golf game.
All right. That is, uh, all I got. Thank you.
